Like the day would never come
Yet, here we are
At this juncture that once seemed forever afar
A moment that impels introspection on those at par
The more I advanced in this journey
The clearer my confusion
My cherished possession is disdained as naught
Yet was I applauded by many for a feat that cost me nothing
Each Stock taking appears all so perplexing
Demarcating line presents á numbling déjà vu
The queue behind interweaves indefinitely
Those ahead stretches infinitely
Every celebrated success I see
Seemed like what could be replicated with ease
Yet life’s ironies leave it all to perspective
In squalor does unfathomable joy bear
And of deep sorrow no mansions spare
Sixty sits among the nobles
Never again a celebration hidden in common numbers
Milestone figures expose yours to all
Now is the separation ever so evident
Between the Egbon Mis
And the Aburo Mis
Destination merrymaking now left aground
Wings clipped, there's no converging elsewhere
Arabian wonder city’s expansive entries are locked
As Her Majesty the Queen’s land its municipalities
Same for the Loud Trumpeter’s glittering cities
Could any have imagined
This time seasons ago
That a day so elaborately envisaged
Would arrive with barely a whimper?
Shred of all pomp and bumper!
Dreams are all but in vain
We plan for a morrow that’s not in our hands
Whether we set a table for the rich
Or indorse charity for the indigent?
Neither now seem apt in a season so Inclement
Hurray!
This day did arrive
Clothed gingerly in barren colour
all eyes are upturned to heaven
Benched by an indiscriminate foe on unfamiliar haven
Reverberating in its thunderous silence
Accompanying lexicon breathes life clearly distinct
Giving this date an unforgettable identity
A proclamation of Social distancing is masked on line
Receding memories of uncontained mingling seem so benign
It’s An anti-climax after all
Deafeningly loud as a pin drop
It crept in with a muted bang
Leaving me ‘n all else in a hang
God humbled the world
Nothing else mattered today
Except His name.
